Long time Ninilchik resident, Terry Kay (Whitt) Cooper, 61, passed away Wednesday May 30, 2012 after a brief courageous battle with cancer.

A graveside service will take place at the Ninilchik Cemetery on Sunday June 3, 2012 for close family and friends. A celebration of life will take place at the Ninilchik Fair Grounds on June 10th at 1pm. An additional celebration of life will be held in Palmer at a later date.

Terry was born in Bellingham Washington on July 14, 1950 to James “Big Jim” and Delores Whitt. Terry and her eight siblings moved to Palmer Alaska from Alger Washington in March of 1954. She met and married her husband of 45 years Gary “Coop” in Palmer in 1966; in 1978 Gary and Terry moved to Ninilchik with their two oldest children Kimberly and Gary Michael. Terry was an involved member of her community and longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 18; Terry’s hobbies were cooking, baking, decorating for the holidays, playing Trump, Pinochle, cribbage, 31, Krazy Bee, and moose hunting. Terry was an excellent clam cleaner and cooker. Terry always looked forward to summer, as she would manage her families set net site “Humpy Point” every year. She played hostess to numerous gatherings of friends, family and even strangers. But it was her kids and grandkids that Terry cherished most.

Terry was preceded in death by her mother Delores Whitt; father James Whitt; and brothers Rex and Dickie Whitt.

Terry is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary M. Cooper Sr.; her children and spouses, Kimberly and Randy Turner of Santa Maria California, Gary Michael and LeeAnn Cooper of Ninilchik, Valley and Scott Lardent of Anchorage & Connor and Stephanie Cooper of Soldotna; grandchildren, Alexia, Hunter, Holland, Tatiana, and Cooper; step-grandchildren, Austin, Natalee, Amanda, Lindsey, Garrett, Justin, Emilie, and Zackery; her brother, Jimmy Whitt; sisters, Delores Hamann, Leslie Jordan, Toni Stocks & Carol Foster; mother-in-law Wanda Cooper; self-adopted parents, Barbara and Don Redmond; best friends; Cheryl, Larry George & Jerry Matson; godchildren, Amanda and John Matson.
